Oval Fall Challenge held in Conjunction with Fall World Cup Qualifier

In conjunction with the Short Track Fall World Cup Qualifier this past weekend, the Oval Fall Challenge took place at the Utah Olympic Oval on Friday September 23rd and Saturday September 24th.
The Oval Fall Challenge consisted of over 25 youth skaters between the ages of 8-16 and a master skater from Park City Speed Skating, Northern California Speedskating, Oval Speed Skating and Phoenix Speedskating Clubs.
On Friday evening, skaters raced their hearts out in a 1000m and 340m four lap race. On the last day of racing skaters finished off their weekend racing a 333m, 500m and 777m Saturday afternoon. All races were held on the 85m track, which is used to help strengthen skaters in the proper position for when they grow bigger, give them more repetitions in that position, and fuel more enjoyment by creating an environment where kids can improve and succeed!
In addition to racing, Olympians JR Celski and Travis Jayner started their journey as new referees. YangYang S. an ISU Referee, mentored both Olympians throughout the competition. Our ISU Competitor Stewards also used the opportunity of the Oval Fall Challenge to train interested parents in educating them in different areas of officiating.
A similar competition will be held in conjunction with U.S. Championships, the Fall Challenge, on January 7-8, 2023 at the Utah Olympic Oval.
