In her final career Olympic race, speed skater Mia Manganello battled through the finish in the women's mass start, claiming the United States' first-ever medal in either the men's or women's event on the Olympic level. It marked her first-ever individual Olympic medal.

Dutch skaters swept gold. Jorrit Bergsma, who at age 40 became the oldest-ever Olympic speed skating medalist with 10,000m bronze Feb. 13., won the men's event, and Marijke Groenewoud claimed 1st in the women's. Bergsma's win makes him the oldest speed skater to win Olympic gold.

Denmark's Viktor Hald Thorup (2nd) and Italy's Andrea Giovannini (3rd) rounded out the men's podium. Ivanie Blondin captured women's silver.
