2022 World Short Track Junior Championships

Team USA’s Short Track Juniors brought impressive performances in Gdansk, Poland March 4-6, 2022.


The competition started out on Friday with qualifying rounds for the men’s and women’s 1500m, 500m, 1000, and the mixed 3000m relay. Kamryn Lute (New York, NY) and 2022 Olympian Eunice Lee (Bellevue, WA) both raced in the women’s 1500m and advanced in their quarterfinal heats to move on to the semifinals which took place on Saturday. Lute and Lee raced in the same heat, where Lute was just off of a qualifying position into the final. Eunice qualified for the B final where she took 6th place. 


Marcus Howard (Federal Way, WA) and Wesley Park (Irvine, CA) competed in the men’s 1500m on day one of the competition. Park qualified to move on to the semifinals where Howard did not advance coming in 5th. In the semifinals Wesley was penalized and did not move on. 


Kamryn and Eunice also competed in the women’s 500m where they both qualified to move on to the next round. In the quarterfinals, they both competed in the same heat where Lee took 4th and Lute took 5th.


The men’s 500m preliminary rounds had Team USA’s Seung-Min Kwon (Rockville, MD) and Alec Sklutovsky (Middlefield, CT) both took 1st in their heat and qualified to move on. Kwon qualified in the heats to move on to the quarterfinals; Sklutovsky did not advance in his heat. In the quarterfinals Seung-Min took 4th and did not advance. 


In the women’s 1000m Kamryn and Eunice qualified to move on to the next round. Lute took 4th and did not advance; Eunice took third and qualified to move on to the quarterfinals. Eunice just missed moving on to the semifinals, taking third in her heat. 


In the men’s 1000m Wesley Park, Seung-Min Kwon and Marcus Howard all qualified to move on to the heats where they all advanced to the quarterfinals. Wesley came in 5th in his heat where Howard and Kwon advanced to the semifinals. Marcus qualified for the B final, and Seung-Min qualified for the A final where they both took 5th. 


The women’s 3000m relay quarterfinals had Eunice Lee, Katherine Liu (Basking Ridge, NJ), Kamryn Lute and Louisiana Stahl (New York, NY) where they qualified to move on to the semifinals. The four women raced hard and came in 3rd, qualifying for the B final. In the final, the team was penalized.
