Casey Dawson wins 5k; Stolz repeats 1000 Gold - Day 1 Recap
In an exciting opening day for World Cup 2 in Calgary, Canada, history was made.
Up first was Greta Myers breaking her own National that she set last weekend in the 3000m, by .96!
Casey Dawson, who broke the National Record last weekend in Salt Lake City with a time of 6:04.40, repeated the feat, this time clinching the Gold in the final pair. His time of 6:01.84 set both a National Record and Track Record, just two hundreths ahead of Sander Eitrem of Norway. This is the first win for the U.S. in the 5k since 2005.
Another Gold medal was added to the U.S. count by Jordan Stolz. In his pair with Jenning De Boo, Jordan solidified his win with a time of 1:06.00, just a tenths off his previous Track Record in Calgary.
In the Women's 1000, Brittany Bowe raced a 1:13.43, closely following the Dutch skaters who placed first through fourth.
Tune in tomorrow for more racing in both short and long track. Medal rounds kick off early tomorrow morning, 6:00am ET, for Short Track and racing picks back up at 2:30pm ET for Long Track. You can watch live on Peacock TV or the ISU YouTube channel.
