Santos Returns to Hometown Club

As summer training continues across the country, skaters are getting primed and ready for the upcoming season! Recently, 17 skaters from clubs such as Connecticut, Flushing Meadows, Bay State, Danbury and Potomac came together for an elite-level short track camp hosted by Connecticut Speedskating Club (CTSS).
Establishing time standards for the camp scaled back participation numbers, resulting in positive outcomes such as more competitive relay groupings and increased individual attention towards each athlete. Coaching the elite camp was 2022 Olympian and CTSS alum Kristen Santos, assisted by coaches Jonathan Winter, Julia Roemer and Kristen’s development coach from her younger years, Dave Moneypenny.
"We wanted to give area skaters an opportunity to learn from Kristen but also to do so while surrounded by the fastest skaters in the area," said Assistant Coach and CTSS President, Jonathan Winter.
A goal for the camp was to provide an environment where athletes could leverage competitive opportunities to further develop speed and relay skills while learning race strategies and tactics from the 2022 Olympian. Over the course of the weekend, skaters learned how to apply these skills and strategies over multiple ice sessions, two dryland sessions, video analysis and blade maintenance instruction. Each session had a different focus such as: speed work, relays, endurance, drills and even some dodgeball at the end!
"It was great to have Kristen back at CTSS to help inspire the next generation of skaters. We look forward to having Kristen back next year!"
