U.S. Short Track Athletes Fight for World Tour Spots at US Championships this September
Salt Lake City, UT – On September 14-16, the Utah Olympic Oval will host all the top short track skaters in the U.S. at the Short Track US Championships and World Tour Qualifier. Watch athletes compete for their spots on the ISU World Tour this fall, a precursor for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics just six months away.
Top skaters to watch include World Champion and Crystal Globe Champion Kristen Santos-Griswold. Originally from Connecticut, Santos-Griswold has made Utah her home, working on her Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Utah while she skates at the top of the world competition. Last season, she took home the Crystal Globe, the first American to win that honor.
Her teammate, Corinne Stoddard, finished 3rd in the World Tour last year and brought home her first World Tour Gold medal. Look for World Championships medalists Julie Letai and Eunice Lee as well as they compete for the limited World Tour spots and their potential position on Team USA.
On the men’s side, the competition is fierce, with top competitors 2022 Olympian and World Championships Medalist Andrew Heo and World Championships medalist Marcus Howard taking to the ice. Other athletes to watch include Brandon Kim, who raced in a World Tour individual A Final this past year, and World Tour Medalist Clayton DeClemente. With such a deep field, it will be a competition you don’t want to miss.
Athletes compete to qualify for the 2025 World Fall World Tour, which will kick off on October 9th in Montreal, Canada.
With 3 days of intense competition, come watch the Olympic team take shape in this high-stake race on ice. Purchase tickets for the event in person at Utah Olympic Oval or stream online on the US Speedskating YouTube channel.
