Piper started speed skating because her mom was a former speed skater and used to do inline marathons. Both of Yde's parents actually met at the Pettit center. While Yde inlined for a while, she made the final jump after the West Allis speed skating coach told me her should do their spring session of skating, and shortly joined soon after.
