2023 Masters International Allround Games

The 31st Masters International Allround Games held at the Centre de Glaces Intact Assurance in Quebec City, Canada were a great success! A total of 128 skaters from 9 different countries participated in the annual event held on the Gaétan-Boucher Oval.
Among the 22 U.S. Masters who participated in the event, there were some notable achievements. Rebecca Simmons, Barbara Johnson, Joanna Walters, and Austin Carlson were all crowned World Masters Champions in their age classes. Joshua Krieter, Jeff Terwilliger, John Diemont, and Vince Morris also made it to the podium in their respective age groups.
Barbara Johnson set four new age class Masters World Records in the 1500m, 3000m, Small Allround, and Mini Allround events after setting a World Record in Calgary the previous weekend. Rebecca Simmons also set a new Masters World Record in the Mini Allround.
In addition to these impressive records, many of the U.S. skaters set or reset Personal Records over the four distances that make up an Allround. These distances vary depending on age and gender, but generally consist of the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, and 3000m for women and men 65 and older, and the 500m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m for men 30 to 64.
Coach Nathan Miller accompanied the U.S. Masters to Quebec City and helped everyone perform at their best. Beyond the competition, skaters also enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and exploring the city's historic landmarks.
At the closing banquet, plans were announced for the 2024 Masters International Allround Games in Enschede, Netherlands on March 8-10. The organizers hope to see even more U.S. Masters participating in the event next year.
