Olympians Bowe Stolz Shine At Desert Classic To Open The Long Track Season

Brittany Bowe, coming off a Bronze-medal performance at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 earlier this year, got her 2022-23 season off to a hot start with wins in the Women’s 500m (1) and 1000m competitions at the Long Track Desert Classic that was held Saturday and Sunday at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah.
Meanwhile, Jordan Stolz, an 18-year-old who made his Olympic debut in Beijing, shined in the men’s field, winning three of the seven races.
The 34-year-old Bowe has shined on the international level over the past several years, and she showed it again on Saturday. The native of Ocala, Florida, won the 500m by nearly a second, clocking in at 38.54 seconds. In her signature 1000m event, Bowe crossed the line in 1:14.65 to hold off fellow Olympian Mia Kilburg at 1:17.74.
Greta Myers cruised to victory in the Women’s 3000m Saturday, her time of 4:12.69 setting a new Personal Best and beating second-place Kimi Goetz by more than 16 seconds. Myers also won the 1500m on Sunday in dominant fashion, her time of 2:00.06 being over five seconds ahead of the field.
Goetz, another 2022 Olympian, won Sunday’s 500m (2) at 38.40 seconds. Laura Michelle Rodriguez of Colombia rounded out the women’s winners on Sunday, just edging Rebecca Simmons of the U.S. by .37 seconds in the Mass Start.
Stolz, of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, got the men’s races off to a fast start Saturday by finishing in 35.12 seconds in the 500m, just ahead of Conor McDermott-Mostowy at 35.71. Stolz went on to dominate the Men’s 3000m later in the day with a Personal Best time of 3:47.00, and then he closed things out on Sunday with another win and Personal Best in the 1500m, this time crossing the line in 1:46.40.
McDermott-Mostowy also recorded a win Saturday, taking the Men’s 1000m in 1:09.12, while Aiden Meacham claimed the 5000m title by more than a minute, finishing with a Personal Best time of 7:24.00.
Diego Amaya of Colombia took Sunday’s 500m contest, finishing in 36.98 seconds. To close out the competition, Andres Campo of Colombia and Okke Mouwen of the Netherlands took the top two spots in the Mass Start, with Meacham the top American in third.
The top U.S. long track skaters will be back in Kearns next month for the US Speedskating Fall World Cup Qualifier and American Cup 1 on Oct. 20-23.
