Morris to step down as US Speedskating Executive Director August 31, 2026.
SALT LAKE CITY (March 4, 2026) – After leading a remarkable turnaround that saw athletic success, growth of athlete services, financial stability, and partner support, US Speedskating (USS) Executive Director Ted Morris announced he will step down from his role on August 31, 2026.
Morris joined US Speedskating in late 2013, working with the board of directors, staff, and the speed skating community to establish a new chapter in the organization’s fabled history and position USS as a leader in the Olympic and international skating communities.
“The opportunity to lead US Speedskating over the last decade plus has been an honor and the highlight of my career,” Morris said. “Working together with our board and the speed skating community, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished for our incredible athletes.
“The sport is in a great position coming out of the Milano Cortina Olympics and with an eight-year runway until the Utah 2034 Olympic Winter Games. It is the right time to pass the torch to the next leader, with the sport and organization in excellent position for continued growth.”
“Ted was the right leader at the right time for US Speedskating,” said USS President Mark Carleton. “With his Olympic sport experience and marketing background, he modernized US Speedskating’s business model. At the same time, he increased our engagement with and focus on athletes. The result is a strong athletic organization that is poised to move boldly towards French Alps 2030 and Utah 2034.”
During Morris’ tenure with USS, he transformed US Speedskating from a volunteer to professionally led organization while increasing engagement with the USS Athlete’s Advisory Commission (AAC). Morris grew fundraising and sponsorship revenue significantly and secured a long-term partnership with NBC to broadcast Olympic Trials and World Cups on its family of networks. Morris led USS efforts, in partnership with the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, in funding and building a $12 million multi-purpose expansion at the Utah Olympic Oval that provides a state-of-the-art high-performance facility for USS Athletes.
Morris has been a key member of the USOPC National Governing Body Council serving in leadership roles on several marketing and revenue committees and as a member of the Borders Commission – created by the USOPC in 2018 as an independent commission to consider and recommend specific changes in the USOPC’s role and engagement with athletes and National Governing Bodies.
US Speedskating athletes have experienced a resurgence of success at the elite level, with the last two years alone bringing history-making performances. USS Athletes have set new highs in World Cup Medals, Gold Medals, set multiple World Records and won six medals at the recently completed 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
The US Speedskating Board of Directors will lead the search for Morris’ successor, with the intent of having a new leader identified prior to his departure at the end of August.
