John Werket

John was born in 1924. He was a four time World gold medalist as well as a four time silver medalist. In 1948 and 1949, he won gold in 1500m, a silver in the 500m, and placed second overall at Worlds. In 1950, he won gold in both the 500m and 1500m, placing third in all-around. In 1952, his final Worlds, he won silver medals in both the 500m and 1500m, giving him 10 World Championship medals in all. John served as a World team coach in 1967. He was inducted to the National Speedskating Hall of Fame on May 17, 1969 in Anaheim, California.
