Beth Heiden

Beth was born September 27, 1959. She started her skating career with a win in the National Indoors as a midget and the National Outdoors in 1974 and 1975 as a junior. At sixteen years old, she was already a member of the 1976 Olympic Team. After this she won a bronze and gold in 1977 at the Worlds, a gold and three silvers at the World Sprint in 1978, and swept the races at the Junior Worlds in 1978. In 1979, she won the World Championship at The Hague by winning all four races. She returned to the Olympics in 1980 to win a bronze in the 3000m. Beth was inducted to the National Speedskating Hall of Fame on May 20, 1989, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
