Millard D. "Doc" Savage

Doc was born January 11, 1928. His involvement in the sport helped to grow speedskating at the grassroots level as he was a tireless recruiter, developed speed skating educational material, and worked to create the Coaching Education Program. He was the recipient of the ASU publicity awards in 1977 and 1979. Doc held the position of chairman of the ASU Growth and Development and Novice Program Committee and, since 1987, he has made “pioneering trips” to a number of new areas to help setup programs for skaters and club organizers. Doc was inducted into the National Speedskating Hall of Fame on May 21, 2000 in Irvine, California.
