James "Bunny" Sheffield

James was born November 12, 1909.  He was an organizer, promoter, and official in a variety of winter sports since 1930. Across this time, he held positions as a national official, ASU President, and as an international board member. The 400 meter oval located in Lake Placid, NY that was used for the 1980's games has been renamed to honor him for his dedication to promoting the sport in the area. He was inducted to the National Speedskating Hall of Fame on May 16, 1971 in Lake Placid, New York.
