2024 Bay State Championships & NorthEast Short Track No. 2


When: Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, 2024

All Novice racing will be completed on Saturday only. No Novice races on Sunday.


Where: Cadillac Ice Arena (formerly Rodman Arena), 2130 Providence Hwy, Walpole, MA 02081


Divisions: This is an ability meet. All ages and abilities are welcome. Skaters will be grouped according to their seed time, with consideration being given to the age of skaters in each group. With the exception of the NorthEast Short Track division, groups may be mixed gender.


  • NorthEast Short Track: This division is for skaters aged 12 years or older as of 7/1/24 who have met the 1000m qualifying time of 1:48.00 for males and 1:58.00 for females. Please supply a 1000m seed time achieved in a sanctioned competition between 7/1/23 and the registration deadline.


  • Novice: This division is for skaters in their first year and new to racing. Please supply a seed time to the best of your knowledge, such as time trial times or USS Coach certified times achieved in practice. Skaters aged 9 and older will race on the 111m track, so please provide a 333m time. Skaters aged 8 and under will race on the 85m track, so please provide a 255m* time.


  • Ability: This division is for all other skaters. All ability skaters will race on the 111m track. Skaters aged 9 and older, please provide a 500m time. Skaters aged 8 and under, please provide a 255m* time or a 333m time.


*Note that on the registration platform, 255m (3 laps on the 85m track) is not an available option, so please use the 222m field for any 255m time entries.

Registration closes on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:59p and will be capped at the first 100 skaters, however we will fill in groups off the waitlist as space allows. To put your name on the waitlist, please contact meet director Jen Kola at jkola@baystatespeedskating.org.


Fees: $100 per skater, $60 for novice

T-shirts will be available by pre-order only until November 21. All proceeds support Bay State Speedskating Club.

Tentative Schedule:

in a heat and final for three distances, plus a superfinal. Novice skaters will compete in a heat and final for two distances, plus a superfinal. Relays will be held, time permitting.

Saturday

  • Check in: 8:30-9:00
  • Warm ups: 9:15
  • Racing: 10:15-4:30
  • Novice awards ceremony to follow.

All Novice racing will be completed on Saturday. No Novice races on Sunday.

Sunday


  • Racing: 9:45-2:20
  • Awards ceremony to follow


Required Equipment: Hard shell helmets, gloves, long sleeves, knee pads, shin pads, and cut-proof neck guards. Cut-proof suits, hard shin guards and eye protection are optional, but recommended.
