    2027 US Short Track Junior Championships

    January 8-10, 2027

    Format: All-Finals - Elimination

    This event will serve as qualifying event for selecting the US Short Track Junior World Team & the Winter World Tour Team.

    Please note that the ZERO-FALSE-START rule will be in place.

    This competition is open to US citizens or to individuals holding, at minimum, a valid temporary or permanent U.S. resident card together with an ISU clearance certificate authorizing representation of the United States in international competition. Any skater holding an ISU clearance certificate authorizing representation of another country will be ineligible to compete in the US Championships.

    NOTE: Age limit is 14 as of July 1st, 2026  to enter the competition.

     

    Entry Deadline:

    December 29th  at 5pm MT
    Entry Fee: $175
    Late entries accepted until January 4th  5pm MT. A $100 late entry fee charge will apply.

    A Zoom link will be sent to all eligible and current coaches who registered via Sport80.

    Safety Equipment:

    All USS member skaters are required to wear full-body cut-resistant protection (either integrated into the skinsuit or separate underwear). Please take note of ISU Communication #2721 and that USS will follow the ISU’s guidance regarding the level of mandatory and recommended equipment for the 2026-2027 season.

    a.   USS Selection Competitions

    Mandatory required minimum: full-body cut-resistant Level 3 suit and cut resistant Level 3 gloves.

    b.   Eye protection. All skaters are required to wear appropriate safety eye protection. Eye protection should be shatter-resistant glasses or a complete visor (as per ISU comm 2721). A safety strap to hold the eyeglasses is recommended.  

    USS will do random checks to inspect the equipment of skaters at the event. Cut resistant racing suite must cover properly and entirely the neck. Skaters with inadequate neck protection will be required to wear an extra neck protector or will not be allowed to start. f

    Eligibility:

    ·      14 years of age before July 1st 2026

    ·      Eligible to represent the US at international competition

    ·      Skaters who are not eligible to compete for the US are not permitted

     

    Qualifying Time Standard:

    Women: 48.500

    Men: 46.000

     

    Athletes selected to a USS travel team need to be prepared to show proof of a current Athlete Physical Exam Form as outlined. Proof will have to presented at Athlete Processing immediately following the qualifying competition and cannot be older than 365 days.

     

    Athlete Check-In:

    All athletes are required to pick up their helmet cover and transponders either in person or via a designated individual on Thursday, January 7th from  2pm-4pm  at the Utah Olympic Oval upstairs lobby.

    Random equipment checks will be performed throughout the weekend.

    No deposit will be required.

    Not returned transponders will be charged to the skater at $100/unit.

    Not returned helmet covers will be charged to the skater at $20/cover.

    Spectators:

    All athletes will receive one complimentary tickets per day in addition to their accreditation. Additional tickets can be purchased during the registration process or at the Utah Olympic Oval front desk for $10/day.

    Athlete Processing:

    For athletes who qualify for international travel as part of the World Tour Team and/or Junior World Team please be prepared to undergo Team Processing after conclusion of event. Plan approx. 1 hour to complete all paperwork, visa applications (if applicable), and apparel fitting (if applicable). Team Processing will be at the World Record Lounge.

     

    Please bring:

    ·      Current Passport

    ·      If under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian might be required to sign

    ·      Your cut proof under suit and helmet for safety check

     

    Anti-Doping Information

    All athletes competing in a US Speedskating selection competition are subject to anti-doping testing.  Please ensure familiar with the doping control process and the athletes’ rights and responsibilities? Please review the USADA Clean Sport Handbook to help familiarize yourself with this information and ensure that you are prepared.
