Kuck Wins 1500m and Takes Overall Lead at Allround World Championships

HEERENVEEN, Netherlands - Jonathan Kuck (Champaign, IL) was the winner of today's 1500m with a time of 1:45.36 at the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships. Following today's win, Kuck is first in overall standings, just ahead of Sven Kramer (NED), with one race to go - tomorrow’s 10000m. Trevor Marsicano (Ballston Spa, NY) finished third with a time of 1:46.70 in today's 1500m and is fifth in overall standings.

The U.S. ladies also had a strong showing on their opening day of racing. Anna Ringsred (Duluth, MN) skated to a respectable seventh place in the 500m race with a time of 39.91.Yekaterina Shikhova (RUS) won today’s 500m with a time of 38.83. In the 3000m, Jilleanne Rookard (Woodhaven, MI) came to life and posted a time of 4:07.39 that held the top spot on the leader board until late in the pairings. Martina Sablikova (CZE) won today’s 3000m with a time of 4:03.59. Rookard’s sixth place finish and time in the 3000m moved her up in the overall standings to fifth place, Ringsred is currently in 17th place.
