Davis Dominates 1500m at World Cup Final

HEERENVEEN, Netherlands March 12, 2010--The Essent ISU World Cup Final kicked off today in Heerenveen, with Shani Davis (Chicago, IL) winning the 1500m by almost a full second with a time of 1:45.20. Trevor Marsicano (Ballston Spa, NY) finished eighth with a time of 1:47.31.

In the Men’s 500m, Tucker Fredricks (Janesville, WI) skated strong finishing second in the men's 500m just .02 behind the winner Jan Smeekens (NED). Fredricks has now taken the lead in the overall 500m World Cup standings with just one race remaining.
Heather Richardson (High Point, NC) skated a great race in the Ladies 500m finishing fifth.  “She still has things to correct technically and she is the youngest competitor in the 500m. Needless to say, she has a great future in the sport,” said Mike Kooreman, US Speedskating assistant coach.
In the Ladies 3000m, Jilleanne Rookard (Woodhaven, MI) and Nancy Swider-Peltz Jr. (Wheaton, IL) both gave it everything they had in today’s race. Rookard ended up in ninth, while Swider-Peltz Jr. finished 12th.
World Cup Racing continues on Saturday, March 13 in Heerenveen, Netherlands. For complete results visit www.usspeedskating.org.
