2010 Allround World Championships Recap
HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (March 21, 2010) - Jonathan Kuck (Champaign, IL) has won the silver medal at today’s 2010 World Allround Championships in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Finishing fourth in today’s 10000m, Kuck skated a personal best (13:15.62),17.65 seconds back from today’s winner and 2010 Allround World Champion, Sven Kramer (NED), winner of the overall title for the fourth straight year. "I'm really excited to get second place in my first World Alround Championship,” said Kuck. “I think it shows great improvement." Teammate Trevor Marsicano (Ballston Spa, NY) finished ninth in today’s race with a time of 13:38.11, securing sixth place in overall standings. “Trevor fought all the way to the end and skated a good race,” said U.S. Allround Coach Derek Parra. “The young American team did a superb job and the future looks bright for the US Speedskaters.” It was also an exciting finish for the U.S. women. Jilleanne Rookard (Woodhaven, MI) and Anna Ringsred (Duluth, MN) skated strong in their 1500m events. Ringsred's time of 1:59.18 put her at 11th in the distance and moved her up to 14th place overall. Rookard skated a 1:59.13 and finished at 10th place in the distance. Canada’s Kristina Groves won today’s 1500m with a time of 1:56.64. In the 5000m, Rookard finished with a time of 7:06.94, placing sixth, 15.96 seconds behind winner Martina Sablikova (CZE). Rookard held her ground in the overall ranking earning the fifth overall position for the weekend.
